Les Cordeliers (Cloître des Cordeliers)

The Cloître des Cordeliers is one of Saint-Émilion's most iconic historical monuments, named after the Franciscan friars known as "Cordeliers" due to the knotted ropes on their robes. Established in the 14th century, this classified Historic Monument combines medieval Gothic and Romanesque architecture with a century-old sparkling wine tradition. Since 1892, Les Cordeliers has produced high-quality Crémant de Bordeaux using the traditional method (méthode champenoise). The wines are aged from 36 to 84 months in total darkness and a natural 12°C constant temperature within 3 kilometers of underground limestone galleries excavated 20 meters beneath the village.
